During our stay in Bulgarian, we visited the Rhodope Mountains, located 260km of the capital Sofia and 85 from Plovdiv.
The mountains are covered with beautiful natural landscapes and are great for many activities, including hiking, sightseeing, mountain biking, caving, fishing and winter sports, among others.
We stayed at Malina Villas (or “Villi Malini” as the Bulgarians say) in Pamporovo. It is a small and lovely village. Review coming soon.
1. Snejanka Peak
One of the main tourist attractions is the Snejanka Peak. Located in Pamporovo, the highest peak has 1.926 meters. On a sunny day, you can even see part of Turkey from there.
Curiosity: In Bulgarian, Snejanka refers to the lady which helps Santa Claus to bring presents to the kids.
During winter, the place is covered with snow and it’s beloved especially by skiers.
From the peak you can also get a ride on a chair lift and have an amazing view of the landscape.
Downstairs you will find a restaurant, where we had lunch after our visit.
2. Smolyan Lakes
The Smolyan Lakes are also beloved by tourists who visit the Rhodope Mountains. Due to their color, they are known as the “esmerald eyes” and are spread along the south of Pamporovo ski resort. Some of them have no water during dry seasons. During warm seasons, the lakes are surrounded by green and pine forests.
3. Nevyastata Ecotrail
The Nevyastata Ecotrail is a good option if you enjoy hiking. From up there you can get a wonderful view of the mountains. We also took the drone to make some videos and pictures! It was amazing!
Since the sky was so clean and full of stars, we turned back to the Ecotrail in the night and made some pictures. During our way up, it was a bit scary I must say. It was very quiet and I couldn’t see anything! We took a lantern, but I had that feeling “if some animal comes behind me, I won’t see it!”, so I was all the time besides Dimi, hahaha!
Wait, before you leave…
